Have an idea for a new feature? Post here!

Close/Minimize to try, hide password, and other...

Postby prk59 on Thu Apr 10, 2008

Hi,
I tested the new version of LockCrypt and I have to say it has become pretty cool. It just lacks some features to be awesome, but the program is still young.
One cool feature would be able to close and minimize the program to the systray (and doing that locking it of course). This way, the program would be available all the time and when I need it I would only have to double click the systray icon.
Another nice feature (this one is beyond nice, it's critical imo) is to hide the passeord when you click on an account so that if there is someone behind he doesn't see your passwords. And then double-clicking on the hiden password would copy it to the clipboard (that's a nice feature! :D )
Yet another feature would be to be able to import/export Contacts from a phone to the program or from the program to a phone. I am particularly interested in a sync with blackberry phones because I'm thinking of managing my contacts using LockCrypts.
Finally, one last request (this one is an easy one but an important one!) would be to add a default field to all account: Notes. That field would not be a field but a text box where you can just put random notes about the account. We can add such a field now, but having only one line to type notes is note very practical, it would be better if we could skip lines.

That't for today :D

Thanks for yous suggestions. I've added all of them to the todo list :)

I'm devoting all of my time at the moment to QuantumFTP, but hopefully over the summer I'll get time to add the features you requested.

From my point of view, these two features are the most interesting of prk59's suggestions. I hope that you might find some time in between to implement them, Harry.

What is QuatumFTP all about? Is it an FTP server or a client? There are already a lot of quite useful FTP programs out there, so I wonder what it's "unique selling point" will be...

All of them?? lol that's awesome! I'm glad you liked the suggestions. If you want some inspiration, check out KeePass Password Safe. It's very good program, but LockCrypt has a lot of advantages that KeePass doesn't have; ie you can add/remove fields youself, you can add account of different categories (not only passwords) etc. LockCrypt has a lot of good features I have to say.

Also, I am curious about QuantumFTP. As Danyar said, there are a lot of good FTP clients out there, which makes me even more curious about it. I will download it and study it.

Anyway good luck for the rest, I am going to follow this project, it's very promising, it will probably become a must very fast (or at least I hope so).

QuantumFTP is a fully featured, easy to use FTP Client for Windows. Key features offered by QuantumFTP include...

;)

It doesn't have a 'unique' selling point yet, but I'm planning to keep adding to it.

Obfuscated fields and a Notes field have been added in version 1.50. I'm also looking into adding a 'minimioze to systray' option.

Thanks again for the suggestions. :)

Great! I can wait to check out the new version. I am glad, that you've found some time in between Quantum FTP coding, so thanks for the updates...

Should be ready in about a week, I'm just finishing the translations and compatibility with the mobile version.

Hi Harry,

Hope you are fine! Decided to add my wish here, because it most concerns this topic. Pls see and decide if it is easy to implement or not ;-)

When "send to taskbar" is actvated in settings, "close window" button (X) should not exit the application, just send it to the taskbar.

In this case "exit apllication" is still available from app's File menu or right clcking on the LockCrypt icon in the taskbar.

I would prefer it because it would prevent accidental closing of the service (e.g. Firefox extension won't work if LC is closed).

Cheers,
Attila

PS: pls update translation % for Hungarian or I will be angry

I could change the behaviour to minimize instead of close. :)
