Can't use fractions beyond 1/2

Found something which shouldn't be there?

Can't use fractions beyond 1/2

Postby yarfapet on Wed Dec 30, 2009

Me and my mother are currently transferring over some of our recipes. But many of them use amounts such as 3/4, 1/4, 1/8, and so on. However when we attempt to type them in (Both in both fraction and decimal form) they immediately either become 1 or 0.

Is this a bug, or is Chicken Ping just unable to handle fractions beyond a half?

Perhaps you downloaded an old version from somewhere other than chickenping.com. I don't have a problem with fractions. Type a number then press tab or move to the next field.

Hi!

I'm having the same problem.

The problem seems to be the region settings in Windows.
With set to German (Germany) I cannot use decimal notation. I tried "0,5" (which is the default decimal separator in German) and "0.5" ... ChickenPing never saves this values to db.
Changing the region setting to English the value "0.5" is accepted and saved. Now changing the region settings back to German the value is shown correctly as "0,5", but trying to change it, the quantity field gets blank.

Sorry, I still can't reproduce this. Type "0,5", press tab, enter the measurement, enter the ingredient name.

I'm also trying, unsuccessfully, to enter fractions for new recipe ingredients. I'm in the US; I've set the Unit System to Imperial, Fractional. If I enter 0.25, it will later show up as 1/4. However, I'd like to enter fractions directly. Hope I'm not missing something obvious.

Thanks again for the great work! :thanks:

No, you can't enter fractions manually. They're a display preference. For simplicities sake, fractions must be entered in metric.

Hi Harry,
Similar problem to ufoao here with the regional settings set to Spanish (Spain). The program doesn't allow me to input the "," charecter and only the "."
If, for example, I type "0,5" it inputs "05" without the ",".
Alberto.

I am using the latest version of the software and I'm getting this problem too. If I enter 0.33 for one third, this is shown in the list as 1/4. If I enter 0.67 for two thirds, this is shown as 5/8. If I enter 0.125 for one eighth, it shows as zero. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

I still can't get all of the fractions to work. 0.25, 0.5 and 0.75 are OK.

If I enter 0.33, it shows as 1/4 rather than 1/3. If I enter 0.125, it shows as zero rather than 1/8. If I enter 0.67, it shows as 5/8 rather than 2/3.

The other odd bug that I've found is that if I copy and paste the ingredients from a word document, if the ingredient is say '0.25 cup flour', 0.2 gets put into the quantity space, there is nothing in the measurement space, then in the name there is '5 cup flour'.

One other thing - when I'm making changes to a recipe and then I save, I get taken out of the recipe into the main database. So then I have to find the recipe again to print it. :?

I really hate fractions. ;)

Only two decimal places are ever shown, and there may well be different interpretations on how to round things like 2/3.

I'll look into the copy/pasting though, and I'll also keep the recipe selected when saving. Cheers.

What would you enter to have 1/3 and 2/3 displayed in the quantity field?

Is it possible to have a rule whereby if you enter:

0.3 it is shown as 1/3 and
0.6 it is shown as 2/3?

If you enter 0.2 it is shown as 1/8, so that works as long as you remember the rule. 0.25, 0.5 and 0.75 work as well for 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4.
