Tabbing Over Measurement Bug & Selecting Ingredients

Found something which shouldn't be there?

Tabbing Over Measurement Bug & Selecting Ingredients

Postby James149 on Thu Aug 27, 2009

Harry,
I noticed that when tabbing over a measurement, sometimes it disappears. This seems to be happening only on some ingredients.

There is another bug that you cannot auto-complete (select) some of the ingredients (like bananas).

It would be nice if we could go into a master list of measurements or ingredients so that we could edit them if they are spelled wrong, or have wrong capitalization, etc.. When you change it in the master list it could go through and change all the recipes that have them.

If you actually select an item, it should remain selected. The list is populated from existing ingredient names, so if you make a typo you only need to correct it in the recipe where it's used.

Harry,
If you click on an ingredient that has already been added, then tab over from the quantity to the name or comments the measurement gets deleted from the screen.

Also, I cannot seem to select bananas ( on your banana cake recipe or my test ones). I can start typing in "eggs" and select that fine. It just does not select it, i have to manually type the whole thing in.

I also thought it would be nice if somehow we could have access to the ingredient list and measurement list ( if I made a typo, and I have entered a ton of recipes, I would have to go back through each one and make the changes, it would be nice to just have the option of changing it in the master list, then it could say something like "do you want to apply changes to all existing recipes?" Or something to that effect.

Thanks,
James

Thanks James,

1) This is a very odd problem, but I can confirm it. It's not even consistent between ingredients containing the same quantities and measurements. I'll keep trying to identify the cause.

2) In the ingredient field - type "b" and press tab. What happens?

3)A master list of ingredients I think is unworkable really. If you find an ingredient with a typo, use the search to find which recipe contains it then you can change it. :) Once you start adding recipes and typing the ingredients though, you should notice any typos anyway.

This happens when the first ingredient you edit has an existing measurement (ie, you don't change the measurement).

I half know the cause, but am investigating.

Harry,
I did not even think of using the search function, that would work great to be able to find typo's ( hopefully I will not have any :) )

When selecting the ingredients, say for banana vs bananas ( I have both in there, I dont know if I should keep the plural or singular version). Either way, when I start typing ba the list comes up with bananas and banana. If I click bananas with the mouse that version gets added. If I try to select "banana" with the mouse it does not get added. Never mind, I see what I am doing wrong. The "top" item of the list cannot be selected with the mouse, only the ones further on down the list.

Is there a way to modify the recipe view? When I try printing out the recipes, the words get cut off.I have tried printing and saving as a pdf, both the same happen? Also, when printing it would be nice to be able to print any pictures as well.

Another nice addition might be a spot near the oven pre-heat for Cook Time and maybe Prep Time.

Thanks,
James

Thanks for the suggestions.

It's actually the selected item which you can't click on - but this is not intuitive I agree. If you type 'ba' and want to select the top item, just press tab. :) I'm working on a fix to allow clicking now.

I did Look at other fields (cook/prep time etc), but other programs tended to look cluttered

Could you change your ptinter orientation to landscape. Unfortunately, I can't guarantee the output will look identical on all printers.

I've changed this in 1.32 so that no ingredient is selected by default. Pressing tab will accept the ingredient name and move to the comment, enter will add the ingredient, and ingredients can be selected by moving to them with the arrows (up/down), then pressing tab or by double clicking them.
