Extreme slowdown after import?

Found something which shouldn't be there?

Extreme slowdown after import?

Postby Fangles on Sun May 23, 2010

As I've just started using the program, I don't know it's limits so I am posting here rather than the bugs section.

I downloaded some Mealmaster recipes and attempted to import one file (13000kz.zip) of around 1,000 recipes. Thereafter I seemed to be waiting for an inordinate amount of time for parts of the program to respond.

What are the limits for the number of records for this program?
Is there some background indexing going on before it will respond as normal again?

Regards, Fangles.

I know about this. I didn't really think many people would import thousands of recipes, but I'll take a loot at performance gains the next time I work on ChickenPing.

:thanks:

Sorry about that Harry. I have around 350,000 Mealmaster recipes and if I understood the import format properly, I'd write something quick and ugly myself to handle it but sadly, I don't.

If someone could write a simple importer to dump recipes to an SQLite database as they are being imported, that would be heaven as I'd then have a data file that I could play with.

In the meantime, back to finishing my address book!

Looks like my wife likes ChickenPing, she said it looks nice:):)

Is it the importing which is causing the slowdown. I got the impression that ChickenPing now runs slowly and the import has finished.

The recipes are stored in an SQLite database you configure in Tools->Options.

Don't know. Will have to do some more precise testing on the weekend. Too busy planning code at the moment.

I think that is how it appears. As I said above, will do more precise testing and get back to you.

Apologies for not replying for so long. I've been busy getting some of my code out the door (and going to and from doctors).

Been doing testing and the slowdown is in using the program after import, changing to some categories can take up to 8 seconds (or more).

I import a 2k file and the program seems to take up to 1 minute to respond as well after it.
Regards.

Could be a virtualization problem, I'll take a look when I next get chance.
